3 just
• "I see your point, but people here just can't afford that sort of luxury..." (DL: 65)
• "I'm sorry Siegfried, I just have nothing to say." (DL: 95)
• "It's just too early." (DT: 265)
• "Не told you he was taking you out. Didn't he?... And just happened to leave his wallet at home." (DT: 66)
• "Wasn't that just typical?..." (DL: 131)
• "We were sitting towards the rear of the aircraft, just behind the wing." (DL: 68)
• "This was the woman who just a few hours before had said she would do anything for them." (DL: 76)
• "It's by a British friend of mine.... He gave it to me just yesterday." (DL: 119)
• I felt nauseated just to breathe them. (DT: 531)
• It made you smile just to look at him. (DL: 115)
• "Don't worry, just do exactly as I do." (DL: 180)
• "Lovely girl. I've always said so. Looks just like a statue of Diana in my father's club." (DT: 61)
• I said I was rather tied up at the school over most weekends; though the half-term holiday was the week-end after the next and I might just be in Athens then - but I couldn't be sure. (F: 162)
• I didn't answer. I was wondering just how we had reached this stage. (JB: 53)
• " Just what is all this nonsense?" (KA: 74)
• I knew just what happened to people who were sacked from the local government. (JB: 200)
• "Oh thank you, James, it's just what I want." (KA: 89)
• And I am fairly sure he would have done just that if only I had made it in to see him. (DT: 77)
• I nearly hung up... but just then the operator came back on. (DT: 160)
• He ran lightly up the stairs. Ronny was just emerging from Gerald Wade's room. ( AC1: 24)
• I convinced myself that it was just superstition. (DL: 76)
• It's just a rumour, actually. (DL: 120)
• "No, Howard, you said it was the way out, I just agreed." (DL: 117)
• And it wasn't just a question of having kept my mouth shut. (DT: 550)
• Absolute peace. High and very far to the north I could just hear an aeroplane. (F: 113)
• "It's terrible," said Charles. "Really, I can just see him. Standing out in a yard wearing some kind of stupid apron." (DT: 112)
• "I don't seem to have my information handy right now, maybe you could just prompt me." (DT: 159)

My room is small, but it is comfortable. There was nothing else for us to do but obey. But non to the main question. I couldn't do anything but just sit here and hope. (3.) Придаточное предложение или отдельные слова и словосочетания, вводимые but после отрицаний, используются для того, чтобы подчеркнуть, что справедлива именно вторая часть высказывания (введенная but): They purpose of the scheme is not to help the employers but to provide work for young people. There is no doubt but that he is guilty. (4.) But 2. используется только после слов all - все, every one - каждый, any - любой, no - не и их производных, а так же в вопросах, начинающихся с what, who и where: We are all here but Mary. Every one knows the answer but me. Who but John would say that? Although/even thought my room is very small, it is very comfortable. Except - наиболее близкое по значению к but, несколько более официально, но по сравнению с but не ограничено в своем употреблении характером сочетающихся с ним слов: not only but also - не только… He was not only foolish but also stubborn; however - однако. (6.) Когда but и yet соединяют два предложения, то эти предложения отделяются запятой (,): My room is very small, but it is comfortable. (7.) Когда however, even so соединяют два предложения, то они отделяются точкой с запятой (;), а слова however, even so отделяются запятой (,): I agree with you; however, we cannot accept your plan. (8.) Часть предложения, вводимая although/even though, in spite of the fact that/despite the fact that, может стоять в начале или конце предложения. Если эта часть предложения стоит в начале, перед главным предложением, то оно отделяется от него запятой (,): Although my room was small, it was very comfortable. My room is very comfortable although it is small. (9.) Сочетание can't/could not but do smth соответствует русскому не мог не: I could not but admire her. (10.).
